Rules of the Hobotopia IP:

Hobo Magic:
Hobo magic naturally distills on nomads, expressing itself in the objects that a hobo keeps with them. This magic is about becoming one with the universe, and is an exploration of the first law of the Hobo code.  The extreme end of the spectrum occurs when Hobos break with other parts of the Hobo code, and this extreme expression of self creates its own prison.
The only way to avoid this is to tie some amount of responsibility and sacrifice to that sense of freedom---limiting the magic as well but creating a happier life.

Limits on magic:
Magic is so individualized and often strange that the personality and interests of the person create their own boundaries. Furthermore, the more nomadic and socially reclusive (from general society) the person is, the more the magic grows, so the most powerful people don't stay anywhere long enough to have a significant impact or create a real problem with their powers.

Object/gameplay types:
Brick Bindle: gives player heaviness (small jumps only), big bashing ability and ability to knock things out of the way
Bird Bindle: gives player lightness (big jumps/double or triple jumps, and gliding downward)
Rope Bindle gives player grapnel/swinging/zipline ability, whip-based attacks (long reach but not strong and hard to control)
Bug/plague Bindle
Branch Bindle: gives player long reach and pole vaulting abilities. Attack multiple enemies at once
Bush/box Bindle: gives player invisibility/camouflage and silence
Swim Bindle: gives player ability to swim and dive
Garbage/teleport bindle: gives player portal-like ability
Pie tin (sound vibration) bindle: Vibration/based attacks, ability to travel through certain materials. Especially useful for animals, breaking glass, etc.
Cheese bindle: keeps enemies at a distance, like a force-shield. Blast radius attacks, make enemies unpopular with their friends when hit with bindle (break up crowds)
Boot bindle: gives speed-based abilities
Fire bindle: gives light, warming/melting abilities and short-range projectile ability
Dowsing rod/compass bindle: guidance abilities (only?)

The Hobo code: •-indicates things that our game needs to center around
  1. Decide your own life, don't let another person run or rule you. •
  2. When in town, always respect the local law and officials, and try to be a gentleman at all times. •
  3. Don't take advantage of someone who is in a vulnerable situation, locals or other hobos. •
  4. Always try to find work, even if temporary, and always seek out jobs nobody wants. By doing so you not only help a business along, but ensure employment should you return to that town again. •
  5. When no employment is available, make your own work by using your added talents at crafts. •
  6. Do not allow yourself to become a stupid drunk and set a bad example for locals' treatment of other hobos.
  7. When jungling in town, respect handouts, do not wear them out, another hobo will be coming along who will need them as badly, if not worse than you. •
  8. Always respect nature, do not leave garbage where you are jungling. •
  9. If in a community jungle, always pitch in and help.
  10. Try to stay clean, and boil up wherever possible. •-though "clean" will be a relative term
  11. When traveling, ride your train respectfully, take no personal chances, cause no problems with the operating crew or host railroad, act like an extra crew member.
  12. Do not cause problems in a train yard, another hobo will be coming along who will need passage through that yard. •
  13. Do not allow other hobos to molest children, expose all molesters to authorities, they are the worst garbage to infest any society.
  14. Help all runaway children, and try to induce them to return home. •
  15. Help your fellow hobos whenever and wherever needed, you may need their help someday. •
  16. If present at a hobo court and you have testimony, give it. Whether for or against the accused, your voice counts!
